About the event
The Real Stakes of the Psychedelic Renaissance: An Evening with Jamie Wheal
In this multimedia, experiential presentation, author and neuroanthropologist Jamie Wheal takes us beyond the familiar narratives of the psychedelic renaissance and into the sharper question of what’s actually at stake. Together, we’ll move through the three core promises of this work—re-enchantment, personal healing, and a wider lens on a world in crisis—and take an honest look at where our collective efforts are landing, wobbling, or breaking new ground. Kick off the new year with one of the most original, forward-looking voices in the field. Expect a thought-provoking, energizing experience—an Austin psychedelic community gathering you don’t want to miss.
Jamie Wheal is the co-author of the global best-seller and Pulitzer Prize-nominated Stealing Fire: How Silicon Valley, the Navy SEALs, and Maverick Scientists Are Revolutionizing the Way We Live and Work, and he is the founder of the Flow Genome Project, an organization dedicated to the research and training of human performance. Since founding the organization in 2011, it has become the leading voice of evidence-based peak performance worldwide, counting award-winning academics, legendary professional athletes, notable operations commanders, and Fortune 500 business leaders among the hundreds of thousands of people in its global community.
He's also most notably the author of Recapture the Rapture: Rethinking God, Sex and Death in a World That’s Lost its Mind. In this fascinating book, Wheal explores the perplexing intersection at which we find ourselves, each of us torn between the desire to save the world or to savor the world. Gabor Maté, MD, calls the book “a highly personal, richly informed and culturally wide-ranging meditation on the loss of meaning in our times and on pathways to rediscovering it.”
His work and ideas have been covered in The New York Times, Financial Times, Wired, Entrepreneur, Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Inc., and TED. He has spoken at Stanford University, MIT, the Harvard Club, Imperial College, Singularity University, the U.S. NavalWar College and Special Operations Command, Sandhurst RoyalMilitary Academy, the Bohemian Club, and the United Nations.
