About the event

In this workshop, we'll hear from Jordan Jent, founder of Texas Fungus, about the A to Zs of mushroom cultivation. Jordan owns and runs the largest mushroom farm in North Texas. He will be teaching on how to grow different mushrooms at home. He'll cover the use of spores, agar,  substrates, as well as growing times, growing materials, and ideal conditions. The specifics of Jay's talk will focus on growing button mushrooms, but he'll be able to answer questions about cultivating other mushrooms as well. Whether you are an avid grower or new to cultivation, this is a meet-up not to miss. Please be sure to RSVP as space is limited and capacity will be capped.

Jordan started his farm due to the lack of fresh and local mushrooms in the DFW metroplex in 2017. He started Texas Fungus LLC and began testing out urban agriculture with methods and techniques of mushroom growing in his one-car garage. After gaining some insight through trial and error, growing shiitake on logs, mushroom beds, along with inoculating everything in sight, the methods being shown today have been refined and are ever improving. Texas Fungus moved into a 2000 sqft warehouse in January of 2019, and most recently, he added another 1800 sqft grow space for maitake alone. Where they currently produce an average of 1,000 of fresh specialty mushrooms every week between the two farms. Those mushrooms are distributed to chefs, restaurants, grocery stores, and farmers markets mostly direct and some food distributors.
