About the event

In this panel conversation, we'll hear from those who participated in The Mission Within, a clinical psychedelic treatment program that serves veterans and veteran family members and specializes in treatment-resistant and complex conditions such as mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI), PTSD, Depression, and/or Addiction as a result of experiences during military service. It also serves veteran spouses and veteran widows and works with participants to heal the invisible wounds of war. The program, founded by Dr. Martin Polanco, provides experiences in Mexico with medicines such as ibogaine, 5-MeO-DMT, and psilocybin, helping participants transcend their trauma to become their best selves. Come learn about the journeys of some of Mission Within's participants, the healing power and mechanism of ibogaine and 5-MeO-DMT, and the ways in which many in the veteran community have transformed their lives and their relationships with loved ones as a result.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Ryan Roberts

Ryan is a Marine Corps veteran and former healthcare executive with a 14-year history in business and clinical operations. He came to the Mission Within after experiencing severe PTSD and depression after his years of service. After his Ibogaine and 5-MeO-DMT treatment, he decided to repurpose his skillset to meet the growing need of veteran organizations in the psychedelic medicine space. He’s deeply passionate about changing the veteran narrative around psychedelics and increasing access to psychedelic-assisted therapy for the veteran community. Ryan has degrees in Radiological Technology, Radiation Therapy, and Healthcare Administration. He most recently completed his Executive MBA with a focus in Healthcare Administration at the University of Colorado, and now works with The Mission Within.

Kelly Thomas

Kelly Thomas is a transformational coach and equestrian training facility manager living in Katy, TX. Kelly's husband, Devon, a veteran, participated in The Mission Within program in 2021 to heal his PTSD, and three months later, Kelly participated as well. The experience dramatically changed Kelly's relationship to herself and her spouse, and allowed her to tap into and heal suppressed childhood trauma.

Cassie Cantin

Cassie Cantin is a veteran who served around the world — from South Carolina to Korea to Ft. Hood, Texas. She deployed to Iraq from March 2003 until March 2004. After that deployment, she had the honor of serving at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), now known as San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), and cared for several wounded veterans. While there, she realized that many service members, herself included, were battling invisible wounds. Plagued by insomnia, PTSD, and survivor's guilt, Cassie decided to attend the Mission Within treatment program in June of 2022. Cassie lives in New Braunfels, TX and also serves as a veteran ambassador  for the Boot Campaign.
