About the event

About the Class:

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DATE OF THIS CLASS WAS CHANGED FROM NOVEMBER 7TH TO FEBRUARY 27th.

Consent is a newer word circulating in mainstream and originates from a conversation around sexual contact. However, the cultural shift around consent impacts everything from handshakes to psychedelic spaces. With more and more abuses being reported about entheogen retreats, it is important to develop a personal and community understanding around the nuances of consent and the effects on society.

In this course, we will discuss the major aspects involved in creating a consent culture in your community and get you familiar with the cultural shift a consent focus provides. This is an intro to consent conversations and will cover common questions people have about consent.

Learn:

What is consent culture and why the old culture wasn’t working.

Where consent affects the psychedelic movement.

When and how to get help with consent violations.

What are the elements of a healthy consent culture?

**Please note that while the focus in not exclusively on sexual consent, it will be covered in a mindful, trauma informed, and sensitive manner.**

The Speaker:

Gina McGrath is an event producer, Project Manager, survivor, and flow arts educator turned consent culture creator and advocate as a founder and president of Consent Culture Initiative. They assist communities to become safer and braver spaces for everyone with a special focus on preventing gender-based violence through community empowerment, peer education, leadership consultation, norm change, and policy development. Gina has 6 years experience in gendered violence response and prevention for festivals and creative communities and is pursuing a degree in Social Work. They hope to utilize the knowledge gained through academia to further support subcultures in establishing cultures of respect and consent that are accessible and relevant. They are extremely grateful to see the positive change their work has inspired.
